Are there any additional costs?
H.E.L.M. Travel only charges the one annual membership fee. A family may charge a security deposit. This is
customary and is between $100-$300 per stay. This is negotiated between the exchange families.
Our family always require a $250 damage deposit. It's nothing personal and it's not that I don't trust anyone. It's
just a reminder that "please treat our home as you would your own and respect it." No one should be offended,
if you ask. Make sure that it is clearly stated in your agreement that a security deposit is due and when it would
be returned. Most people will return a security deposit within 3 days of arriving back home.
